How to Nurture Your Creativity with Astrology

Creative astrologyAre you creative?

When I ask this question, my answer is generally No!

But sometimes, just sometimes, it’s a Yes!

Even then, there might be a few seconds of delay, before I get the positive response delivered in various levels of conviction.

Remember when you were a kid and being a princess, a shiny knight, a super-hero was easy, fun and effortless? Do you still remember when you showed off your latest abstract wall painting or sculpture made with all sorts of pasta with the certitude that it was absolutely perfect? Back then, you could sing, dance, paint, draw and imagine without hesitation, doubt or fear.

So what happened?

2010 World Cup I am glued to the TV watching every game of the Brazilian soccer team in the World Cup. As I surfed the Internet during half time, I found, on Saturnalia, this article

in Portuguese on soccer and the 12 signs of the Brazilian team, written by El Gatón.

I translated the original post from Portuguese and adapted it for my English-speaking readers.

If I Had Unlimited Resources, I Would…

If I had unlimited resources I would

That’s a lot of pressure to come up with a inspirational, fun and witty answer. But the truth is I don’t know. This is the kind of question we are seldom confronted with in real life. If I was a Miss Universe pageant I would say “World Peace”. But I am not. I am a middle aged woman bent on developing her passion for astrology, creativity and herself. Sure, unlimited resources to create whatever we want seems like a dream come true. But would it be fun? Helpful? Inspirational. Would it help me become a better person? I think this is a choice we have to make everyday independently of the amount of resources available. But it certainly could make for interesting times and stories.

Astrology and Meditation: The Mandala of You

Recently, I was thinking about the connection between astrology and meditation, so I was frantically looking for Greg Bogart’s book, Astrology and Meditation. (Bogart would probably chuckle at my franticness.) I couldn’t find it although I swear I have it somewhere in my library. (That’s the problem with being an astrologer, you believe you never have enough astrology books, so you keep buying them even before you finish reading the ones you bought previously. The other day I almost bought a book that I already had. Discovering the book on my bookshelf was a nice surprise.)

There is an intimate relationship between astrology and meditation. As a beginner astrologer, you read and read and read some more. You gather all the knowledge you can cram into your mind and you still fear it’s not enough. In a way it’s true. As the popular saying goes, “Practice is better than theory.” In my own experience there is two ways to become a better astrologer:

Mind-Empower-Reality’s-Creation-Unlock-Reawaken-Yourself: An Acronym for Mercury in Pisces

It goes like this. Every other week, I have a coaching session over the phone with my writing coach, Beth Barany.  We will go over the edits  of the work I previously sent her, clarify doubts, ping-pong ideas for conclusions,  massage concepts for the “meaty “part of the post, etc. That’s the easy part. Then comes the dreaded question:

Beth: ”So, what are you working on?”

Me: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh… Silence. More silence. Breathing. Even more silence. Sigh. “I don’t know. I have nothing to say. No new ideas.”

It’s almost like a ritual.  (I hear a chuckle on the other side of the phone). Beth then starts to bounce off ideas. She helps and teaches wannabe bloggers how to get started in blog land. Therefore she has a lot experience with that kind of reaction. As we start to banter, my imagination gets all warmed up and playful, starts to take off as images come pouring down as a summer rain, refreshing after a hot day.

And that is Mercury is Pisces.

I Hate You / I Love You: My Struggle with Venus

13 05 2010

I was struggling with my article about my inner/outer dialogue with  Venus.  Venus has always been my unlived planet and my writing is very rooted in my personal experience. Hard for me to write about Venus since I do not have a lot of experience with this planet.

Venus is ruled by Libra. But my Venus is in detriment – located in Libra’s opposite sign — in Aries. My Venus is also retrograde – meaning it seems from a geocentric point of view to go backwards in my birth chart. See Wikipedia: retrograde motion. Not a happy placement for Venus, where her qualities, as described in astrology manuals, are in conflict with the qualities  ascribed to Aries. Making difficult  for me to express both energies in a harmonious way. In astrology when a planet is retrograde, the energy of the planet is experienced in a more subjective, internal way. Thus your experience and expression of the planet’s energy is very unique to you. With Venus retrograde in my natal chart, my concept of beauty is different, comes from a different place, than those around me. Read the rest of this entry »
