Mind-Empower-Reality’s-Creation-Unlock-Reawaken-Yourself: An Acronym for Mercury in Pisces

It goes like this. Every other week, I have a coaching session over the phone with my writing coach, Beth Barany.  We will go over the edits  of the work I previously sent her, clarify doubts, ping-pong ideas for conclusions,  massage concepts for the “meaty “part of the post, etc. That’s the easy part. Then comes the dreaded question:

Beth: ”So, what are you working on?”

Me: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh… Silence. More silence. Breathing. Even more silence. Sigh. “I don’t know. I have nothing to say. No new ideas.”

It’s almost like a ritual.  (I hear a chuckle on the other side of the phone). Beth then starts to bounce off ideas. She helps and teaches wannabe bloggers how to get started in blog land. Therefore she has a lot experience with that kind of reaction. As we start to banter, my imagination gets all warmed up and playful, starts to take off as images come pouring down as a summer rain, refreshing after a hot day.

And that is Mercury is Pisces.

In that sign, Mercury is a very impressionistic fellow with a very powerful imagination. However, Pisces the Fish is considered one of the mute signs in astrology along with Cancer and Scorpio. (Arabs astrologers considered them mute because those 3 creatures do no emit sound.) Therefore, Mercury is any of these signs is deemed to have difficulties with communication, either physically like stammering, dyslexia, or mentally, as in expressing ourselves clearly.

Having a Mercury in Pisces myself I know the bind I am in. Putting words to my imagination is something that is very difficult for me. think of Seurat paintings and the Pointillism technique. Millions of dots connect to each other to form an image. Mercury in Pisces likes nothing more than to swim in a Seurat painting, to swim in the sounds, images, shapes, emotional tones, impressions and feelings. In For a Mercury in Pisces, anything that stimulates the senses in order to blossom the imagination is fair game.

But a Mercury in Pisces  doesn’t play with imagination for the sake of imagination, but rather to reveal the unseen connections of a deeper awareness. To explain how a Mercury in Pisces functions, I go back to Seurat’s technique of painting little dots to create an impression that forms an overall picture when seen at a distance: pointillism.

Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image. Pointillism was based on the translation in lay terms of the scientific discoveries about  color, optical effects and perception made by Helmholtz and Newton.  Chrevreul, one of the scientists working on the practical application of Newton’s discoveries, noticed that two colors juxtaposed, slightly overlapping, or very close together, would be perceived as another color when seen from a distance.

This holographic effect is a good example of how a Mercury in Pisces behaves. We often see the big picture in the tiniest details. As John Muir used to say, “The entire universe is contained is a single blade of grass.” In general, a Mercury in Pisces will excel at picking up subtleties that others might not. We see connections and interrelatedness in places where it makes no sense to others. That’s the beauty and the curse of a Mercury in Pisces. The amount of information that a Mercury in Pisces can gather through these impressions is amazing.

In order to access this universe, a Mercury in Pisces has to know how he or she feels about that particular universe. A Mercury in Pisces is often described as a psychic sponge for its ability to tune to the nuances, the feelings and moods of their environment. The information they extract from their surroundings can be unusual and certainly unique. For some, it is heavily skewed in the direction of emotion and feeling.

And for us it is sometimes difficult to distinguish which emotions belongs to me and which belongs to the people surrounding me.

A Mercury in Pisces mind is governed by emotions. Being the counterpart to Virgo’s logic (Pisces and Virgo are considered opposites in astrology). In order to be able to express ourselves, we need to know how we feel about the information we receive. Until then, often than not I am condemned to fuzzy thinking.

Mercury in Pisces communicates through our emotions. The mind is directed by emotions. Once we know what our emotions are, we can communicate our thoughts. However in order to do that, we need lots of time to reflect and unwind our thoughts, and create space to “listen” to our own narrative. In other words, we talk to themselves a lot, no matter where we are. I have been known to talk to myself while walking around in my neighborhood, and have attracted quite a few stares over the years. But Mercury in Pisces is usually so much in our own world to give a damn about it, if we notice the sideway glances at all.

One way for a Mercury in Pisces to become a better communicator and escape from the vagueness (lack of details) of their communication style is often through an artistic media. Because of the high imagination we love to dwell on, Mercury in Pisces has a naturally artistic ability, and is often drawn to music, theatre, poetry, visual arts, filmmaking or photography. I have noticed an improved ability to communicate more clearly the more I write and do photography. Before I found a creative self-expression outlet, my capacity for imagination was being used as a means of escape from the reality of the difficulties of communicating with people. I would throw myself into daydreaming and read romance novels. I felt frustrated, despondent, and often resorted to gab and fib to get a point across.

Now, the more I take advantage of my Mercury in Pisces ability to dwell on my imagination and my capacity to see the whole picture in infinite detail, the more I become clearer on what I want to say.

My newfound ability to share my thoughts, experiences, and knowledge through my blog has healed many decades of wounds of constantly not being heard or being misunderstood – a surprising consequence of diving into my own imagination. The healing aspect still amazes me, for not only for myself, but that the healing seems, sometimes, to happen to my readers, too. This is what I call divine inspiration. Thank you my Mercury in Pisces.

I am glad the article helped you. Like you I am not really having the energy to do anything creative lately. But I have noticed that my mood improves considerably if I do something creative even if only for a short period of time. A little bit like going to the gym. Once you are there and overcome the first minutes, you start feeling good and keep going.

I agree with you Jorge. Pisces transits are very rich in dreams. And if you pay attention to the dreams you can learn a lot about yourself and the changes that are occurring in your lief. I generally keep a small notebook by my bed during those times to keep accurate notes of my dreams and be able to review them later on. After a time, you can see the progression of the transits through the dreams. Very interesting.
